P.S. 196 Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Important Information
First Day of School — Thursday, September 10, 2026 This is a required FULL attendance day for all 3K–5th Grade students.
School Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.
Arrival: 7:40 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.
- For safety reasons, scholars should NOT arrive at school before 7:40 a.m.
- Arrival doors close promptly at 8:05 a.m.
- Your child will be marked LATE if they arrive starting at 8:05 a.m.
Dismissal: 2:10 p.m. – 2:20 p.m.
- Dismissal doors open promptly at 2:10 p.m.
- Dismissal doors will be closed promptly at 2:30 p.m.
- Late student pick-up begins at 2:30 p.m.
- If your child is picked up late (starting at 2:30 p.m.), you will be required to sign your child out.
- Late pick-ups are monitored by the Administrative team. More than four (4) late pick-ups will result in an Administrative meeting.

Safety Purposes
- During arrival, only students (K–5 grade) will be allowed inside the school building and schoolyard.
- Students should not be dropped off or left alone before 7:40 a.m.
- Morning arrival supervision is provided from 7:40 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.
- At 8:00 a.m., teachers will promptly pick up all classes.
3K – 1st Grade Student Class Tag
All 3K, PreK, Kindergarten, AIMS, and 1st Grade students need to have their Student Class Tag on their bookbag.
Breakfast
Breakfast Time: 7:40 a.m. – 7:55 a.m.
- The café opens for scholars promptly at 7:40 a.m.
- Breakfast is served each morning from 7:40 a.m. until 7:55 a.m.
- If your child is not having breakfast, they may be dropped off anytime between 7:40 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.
